Hat Trick for Tanner
It was in the low 60s and foggy at the start line, becoming sunny and warming into the mid 80s in the afternoon. We had 114 runners start, with 92 (about 80%) finishing within the time limit — the last two having only seconds to spare!
Jason Tanner became the first person to win the UltraChallenge three times in a row. He led right from the start, finishing about 49 minutes ahead of second place finisher Ann Bartman. Ann passed Dustin Carr around the halfway point, finishing about 40 minutes ahead of him.
In the relay race, Peanut Butter Jelly Time started strong but Grannies & Geezers pulled ahead around mile 28. At the last checkpoint, they had a 30 minute lead but ended up being disqualified after a team member realized they had missed a turn and mistakenly returned to the course at a different location.
Congratulations to these thirty three solo runners who earned the the final piece of the medal and the accompanying rolling pin display. Five of them took home pin #2!
